Adele has released four albums, each named for the age at which she wrote it, and has never chased a trend on any of them. 21 sold more than thirty million copies on the strength of unfashionably plain arrangements and a voice trained on Etta James and Dusty Springfield records. She writes or co-writes everything she sings, and her 2021 record 30 was built around the collapse of her marriage.
