The story
Burna Boy calls his music Afro-fusion rather than Afrobeats, drawing on highlife, dancehall, reggae and the Afrobeat of Fela Kuti — whose band his grandfather once managed. African Giant and the Grammy-winning Twice as Tall argued that African pop belonged at the top of festival bills, not in the small print. In 2023 he became the first Nigerian artist to headline both Citi Field and London Stadium.
