That classic SG growl, with a couple of caveats

Gibson SG Standard

Recommends Verified Owner

There is a reason this shape has been in every rock band's arsenal since the 60s — it is light, it balances on a strap without fighting you, and the humbuckers have a midrange bite that cuts through a two-guitar mix without needing to fight for volume. Neck-dive is real on this one, though; I had to switch to a wider leather strap to keep it from constantly drooping toward the floor during standing sets.

Pros

Iconic tone, lightweight, great upper-fret access.

Cons

Neck-dive without the right strap; nut needed reshaping out of the box.
