John Lennon was a founding member, rhythm guitarist, and co-lead vocalist of The Beatles, the band that transformed popular music forever. His partnership with Paul McCartney produced some of the most enduring songs of the 20th century. After the Beatles disbanded, Lennon pursued a celebrated solo career with iconic songs like "Imagine." He was tragically shot and killed in New York City on December 8, 1980.
